Unending Education

The 'Unending Education Portal' was created to serve as a resource platform for educators and learners aspiring towards Integral Education in the light of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother. The goal is to assimilate innovative educational experiences within the context of Auroville and to publish them in an accessible manner. We expect this pool of hands-on knowledge to serve as an inspiration to those looking for alternative ways of learning, should they be teachers, students, researchers or simply individuals striving towards personal growth.

Situated 130 Kms south of Chennai, India, Auroville is an international township founded in 1968 by ‘The Mother’ of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. It is an ongoing project endorsed by UNESCO and the Government of India. In The Mother’s words 'Auroville wants to be a universal town where men and women of all countries are able to live in peace and progressive harmony above all creeds, all politics and all nationalities. The purpose of Auroville is to realise human unity.'

According to its charter, education and progress are put at the center of its society, the aim and means of its life. We are all learners since Auroville is constantly in the process of inventing itself. This implies an 'unending education and constant progress', striving for a new way of living and a new consciousness. This differs from the traditional vision which considers that education is to prepare one to find one’s place in the economic system and gain the financial means of one’s freedom and happiness. Auroville attempts to challenge traditional practices, be it in the field of spirituality, technology, ecology, economy, governance and education, and to strive towards a truer and more meaningful way of existence. It offers a wide spectrum of educational centers where integral learning takes place, catering to all our inner and external aspects - heart, mind, life & body.

This portal is broadly organized into sections along age groups or broad fields of activities. These contain articles, downloadable reports, audio and video clips, and slide presentations. We intend to update content on a regular basis and invite all those involved in Integral Education to share their research work.

We hope you find it useful and we welcome your input for further development of the portal.
